What would you tell a friend?

It’s easy to get out of your own head… not so easy once you’re back in there, though.

This weekend I watched a delightfully short, to-the-point, and useful video on YouTube.

The video was under 3 minutes — but offered a lifetime of wisdom for those who apply it.

The idea was, when someone else shares their problems, it’s easy for us to see from the outside how to fix things.

But when we’re on the inside, those problems become tangled with emotion, ego, history, and uncertainty.

To overcome this baggage, according to the video, you can simply to step outside yourself…

Look at the problems as if they belong to someone else…

And then come up with suggestions and solutions as if you were advising a good friend.

Now, while I agree it’s a decent approach, implementing those ideas brings us back to the realm of emotion, ego, history, and uncertainty.

And maybe we can overcome those. We certainly should try.

Or maybe it’s really an exercise in realizing we can’t fix other people’s problems as easily as we might like to think.

Love you,

Jeffrey
