Speak In Their Skibbidy

Saw a brainrot video today:

This school brings in a polyglot—someone who speaks many languages—to tell students why its important to learn other languages.

And this rizzler low-key gives the presentation in Gen Alpha slang. No cap, chat.

Lucky for us, the video has subtitles in English.

It’s a reminder that when you’re writing or talking to your audience, be careful with your use of slang or jargon.

Because the in-crowd might understand you. And that can build rapport and show you know what you’re talking about.

And if you’re targeting just those people, jargon and slang can cut through the noise to hit your target.

But everyone else may not understand a skibbidy word you’re saying.

And that’s one good way to lose out on sales.

So what to do?

If you need to use jargon in your sales message meant for a wider audience—and you can’t use another word—simply give a brief explanation so everyone’s on the same page.

God bless you.

PS In Flip the Script, author Oren Klaff discusses how to use jargon to signal your in-crowd status to buyers. It’s a good book all around if you’re interested in negotiation.
