  • Maximum Impact with Brian Kurtz (Persuasion Play Podcast #19)

When I first picked up Brian Kurtz’ book, Overdeliver, I was pretty new to the game of direct response marketing.

At the time, I didn’t know who Brian was. I didn’t know much about Boardroom Reports. I had no idea the influence Brian has had over the last 4+ decades.

But I can still see his sales video in my head, Brian standing in a white room, and even then I knew he had a lot to share.

Brian’s lessons within Overdeliver changed how I understood marketing. It should be required reading for all marketers today.

After I attended Chris Mason’s and Brian’s Breakthrough Advertising Bootcamp, I asked Brian to join me for a Persuasion Play Podcast conversation.

True to his book title, Brian overdelivered in this episode, sharing so many ideas he learned from those who came before him, including Eugene Schwartz, Marty Edelston, Dan Kennedy, and others.

Get all of Brian’s insights in Episode 19 of the Persuasion Play Podcast: Maximum Impact.

I don’t remember the grade. I don’t remember the teacher.

But I remember those words… and being frustrated that there are more than just 5!)

So before writing your sales letter or ad, make sure you answer these:

    Saw a brainrot video today:

This school brings in a polyglot—someone who speaks many languages—to tell students why its important to learn other languages.

And this rizzler low-key gives the presentation in Gen Alpha slang. No cap, chat.

Lucky for us, the video has subtitles in English.

  • Did I just meet Bruce flippin’ Barton on LinkedIn?

Last week I sat—virtually—with a few dozen other copywriters in a webinar about Financial Copywriting.

If you don’t know, Financial is one of the “Big Three” markets. The other two are Health and Relationships.

This webinar, no doubt, was filled with good advice on writing for companies that sell financial “get rich this week!” type info.

And those promotions generally do well. Because most everyone wants to get rich.

Including the webinar attendees… including me… who were promised that the financial info companies were all in desperate need for copywriters.

“If you can write an email like this one,” said the guest, showing a simple, 5-line message, “then you too can earn big royalties!”
