Do you write fast?
I remember a story about Stan Lee the comic book writer. I think Ben Settle told this story.
And Stan said, “if I want to buy something, I can always just write more.”
As a freelance writer, that can be a challenge.
If you don’t have clients available, the advice to “write more” doesn’t solve much.
But it does help to write faster.
Because then you can get more things done… either writing, or prospecting, or just dicking around.
Just a few minutes ago, I finished scheduling a month of ghost-written email for a client. They’ll go out like clockwork, bringing in new appointments and making sales.
Next up, writing a month of Twitter posts for the same client.
I find it’s a lot easier to batch-write this content—and quickly.
Sit down, look at the notes from our last convo, and crank it all out in a few hours.
Then I can bill immediately, instead of writing (and waiting) until the end of the month.
(This is a ‘legacy’ client who always pays, so I haven’t moved him to my newer ‘pre-pay’ model.)
Plus, having everything in ahead of schedule frees up my mental bandwidth, knowing I don’t have these little tasks hanging over my head.
This weekend, we’re going to the lake.
And I can leave my computer at home.
And if, for your business, you want me to write copy for you? I can do that—but not until Monday.
