Don’t think of a King

The classic “don’t think of an elephant” idea.

Where you can’t tell someone to NOT do something… because the very command puts the idea in his head.

Parents know and use this one.

“Don’t eat that” can (and should) be rephrased “Keep that out of your mouth.”

“Don’t hit your sister” can be rephrased “Hands to yourself.” (Used this one today even!)

And on and on.

Point is, you don’t often want to say what NOT to do, because…

The subconscious mind can’t process negatives.

And it hears “EAT that” and “HIT your sister.”

For the negative to work, the logical brain has to override the subconscious with what IT heard.

But we’re like 80% controlled by our subconscious.

So for the logical brain to take over?

Effort.

And we hate effort.

Earlier today was a bunch of “No Kings” protests in the US.

Which to the people who paid attention, only reinforced the idea of a KING.

It wasn’t “Democracy Now!” or “Power to the People.”

It was all about an idea that isn’t even real for half the country.

It’s pretty brilliant actually, for an opposition slogan, because it serves to reinforce the anger among those who believe it.

Ok off to watch a movie with the fam. Maybe the old Beetlejuice?
