Where to Find Copy Clients in December

Here’s a tip I learned a year ago that I still haven’t put into practice.

But maybe you can.

Because it only works if you have spare time, right now!

Let me explain:

Monday night I attended my daughter’s violin Christmas Concert.

Last night was my son’s 4th grade Holiday Concert.

Tonight’s my daughter’s middle school Holiday Orchestra Concert.

Tomorrow night? Christmas shopping.

Friday? Glühwein at the Downtown Christmas Market.

Meaning, following a busy day of writing sales copy, my evenings are also crammed.

And Advent is a time to slow down and reflect, against the pressures of the modern world.

So any spare time I do have?

I don’t necessarily want to pack it with parties.

But parties are where you can find clients.

Specifically, corporate Christmas parties.

Here’s what I mean.

A year ago I was at a party and a C-Level exec shared this secret with me:

“Every company is looking for good writers…

“But if they don’t know you?

“It’s hard to get started with them.

“However…

“Their Christmas parties are often open to the public so their own customers can attend.

“Just look up when a few local companies have parties, go to those parties, and talk with people. Tell them you’re a freelance copywriter.

“Start a relationship.”

Or, I might add, you could tell them you’re a freelance web designer… that you create large-format art that looks good in a lobby… that you create custom tables for executive board rooms…

Whatever it is you do, if you can help a company with your skill, this is one way to advance your career.

Now, this seems almost too easy.

And maybe it is a bit simplified.

Because I’ve been to networking events, and they don’t all end up booking my calendar for the next year.

But these parties can start a relationship.

Which is the first step to a mutually beneficial arrangement.

There’s a world of possibilities out there if you know where to fish.

And a corporate Christmas party seems like a decent place to find big fish.

Maybe even a whale or two.

Love you,

Jeffrey

PS. Looks like I may have space in late January for a copywriting client, specifically a single long-term sales page or VSL.

Maaaybe for an ongoing email copy client. Not yet sure.

If you’re looking for sales copy that sells, reply now and we’ll get something on the calendar.
