What’s that homosapien up to?

Saint Paul

There were no tigers today.

Habitat closed.

I assume that means the animals themselves went into cold storage, like art stashed in a dark basement.

Either way, the all-school field trip to the Minnesota Zoo today was a lot of fun.

I herded the cats that my son calls friends.

Watched the adults act like children, climbing on fences and dropping trash on the ground.

And worked on my small talk with fellow parents:

“How do you fill your time?”

Some people answered with work.

One gent—very briefly—told me about his job “in the philosophy department” of a local university. We were interrupted before I could learn if he was a professor or a librarian or what.

Others seemed to have a bit more going on in their lives.

One dad told me about his new film camera hobby—a hobby I share, so that was a fun convo.

All good.

My point wasn’t to make besties but to slowly expand my network.

Because one of these days I’ll meet someone I can help with marketing.

Or, maybe they know someone I can help.

Until then, I’m getting comfortable with “networking”—including reading body language. (Because it’s not your net worth… it’s your net work that makes the difference. Or something like that.)

Plus, when my grandpa died a decade ago, everyone in town knew him. In a good way. I figure, that’s gotta be a worthwhile life, to have an impact on so many people. Again—in a good way.

Back to body language.

I recently reread some of my “What Every BODY Is Saying” posts. Summaries from Joe Navarro’s book. I should probably reread the whole book, but my reading list is always longer than my window of time.

If Body Language interests you, you can find the Navarro posts here (in reverse chronological order)—

What are you reading, anything I should add to my pile?
