The holidays are here, *|FNAME|*!
Yesterday we hosted my wife’s family—21 people!—in our small 1950s rambler home.
We didn’t know how everyone would fit, and hoped the kids would find their way to the basement.
Turns out, we did fit… and spent a good 30 minutes singing carols around the piano before all the aunts and uncles brought out their multitude of gifts.
One thing I learned, years ago, is that people tend to congregate in the smaller spaces.
Think about a party—someone is always hanging out in the kitchen.
Or a comedy club, where the tables are always very close to one another.
It’s the slight level of discomfort that actually makes people connect better, open up, feel comfortable.
So having people crammed in our home worked out perfectly.
All this to say, don’t try to make things perfect.
Don’t worry about things working out.
People are adaptable and prefer the smaller space, on a subconscious level.
Merry Christmas and thanks for being a subscriber.
I love you,
Jeffrey
