  • Beware this VSL health scam

    My uncle’s memory is slipping.

    It’s not as bad as it could be. Yet.

    But it adds a lot of stress to the family, especially for my mom (his sister).

    So when my mom and dad were recently sent a Video Sales Letter (VSL) about a miracle cure for Alzheimer’s , they were interested in what it had to say.

    They watched the full hour or so.

    And then they sent it to other family members before one wrote back with a warning:

  • Insult or Income?

    My first decently paying copy client was back in 2018.

    I wrote Facebook ads at first, as lead generation for Medicare reps. It was my second Medicare role.

    Then we expanded into life insurance lead gen for a well-known Christian insurance company.

    We started that campaign with quizzes and a VSL.

    I wrote both.

    But the guy who hired me had an employee record the VSL voiceover.

    And it was terrible.

  • YouTube’s unskippable 60 min ads

    I write ads.

    Some of my copywriting peers love seeing ads “in the wild” because it helps them know what others are doing.

    But I’ve blocked ads for a long time, even before I became a copywriter, because they’re often just so bad.

    Now, YouTube’s been fighting ad-blockers for a while…

    And apparently, YouTube is winning that fight.

    So they’ve made some ads unskippable, even when the ad is an hour long!

    These are VSLs–video sales letters–and the advertiser has to pay for them after X amount of viewing time.

    Make them unskippable, and suddenly…
