Quick notes on Myers-Briggs letter meanings

Myers-Briggs Personality Tests take 4 traits of a personality, and puts people on one side or the other of these traits.

Then, those 4 traits are combined into 16 different ‘personality types.’

These are all “general” attributes, not absolute—

  • Social Attitude:
    • Extroverted (E) people are charged by social interactions, vs.
    • Introverted (I) people are drained by social interactions.
  • Perception:
    • Sensing (S) people live in the moment, vs.
    • Intuition (N) people look towards the future.
  • Decision Processing:
    • Thinking (T) people process with logic primarily, vs.
    • Feeling (F) people process with emotion primarily.
  • Follow the Rules:
    • Judging (J) people follow the rules even if they don’t like ’em, vs.
    • Perceiving (P) people are more seat-of-the-pants.
