One of the worst feelings is when you’re stuck for new ideas or motivation.
As a direct response copywriter I’m tasked with creating copy for new promotions, emails, websites, social media posts and more… multiple times a day.
And while I’m usually on track, sometimes I just feel behind.
Ring a bell for you, *|FNAME|*?
Here are three tricks I use to get myself moving.
1. Open a blank document… and then fill it with a template.
Now, I don’t mean a copywriting… fill-in-the-blank… create-generic-copy template.
I mean, I use a free tool named Clippy for MacOS that pre-populates my page with sections for “Date” and “Client” and “Notes” and “Body Copy.”
Once those are on the page, I find myself beginning to write each section… and then things start to flow.
Another trick I use…
2. I write a letter to my mom.
Serious.
What could I say about this product or service that might interest or benefit her?
When I’m done, I remove the “Dear mom…” part and anything else that’s not promotion-related.
The third one… which I just finished… is
3. A bit of exercise, prayer, or meditation.
Spring is here and I wanted to get out for a run.
So today I stepped away from my computer and let my mind wander while I pushed my body for the first heavy-ish cardio in months.
Now I’m back with a clear head. I knocked one task already, and now this post, and I have a few more tasks ahead of me for the day.
How do you buckle down when you just… can’t?
Let me know because some days, I need all the help I can get!
