I saw this fascinating fact on LinkedIn, in Feb 2025:
“More than half of job seekers have been on the hunt for six months — if not longer.”

Now, I’m not super active on Social Media. (Connect with me here on X, or here on LinkedIn now!)
But, don’t you think some of this “job hunt” blame goes to LinkedIn?
Ok, maybe not LinkedIn so much as the internet as a whole.
Everything is suddenly local.
Which is good in some ways, of course. Current events, shopping, networking.
But terrible in other ways–especially the global job market. Especially for remote work, where everyone is competing against everyone.
Employers only want the best–out of hundreds or thousands of candidates.
Job seekers are rarely “the BEST.” Many are probably great at the job, but competition is fierce.
Which means, if you’re not busy growing, you’re busy dying.
And promoting yourself is, unfortunately, an important way to grow your visibility and reputation.
Even when it feels a bit ick.
As Gary Halbert famously said (more or less):
“I’m not in the copywriting business. I’m in the self-promotion business!”
What are you working on to build your reputation, *|FNAME|*?
And are you going to let a bit of ick slow you down?
Cheers to your success,
Jeffrey
